06 May Anti-aging Acai Smoothie
I’m not sure how it is in the rest of the country, but here in San Diego, if you haven’t heard of acai…you must be living under a rock. This superfood is a small dark purple berry from the Amazon rainforest that is full of antioxidants, amino acids and omega fatty acids which help to slow the aging process by boosting immune and metabolic function and removing destructive free radicals from our bodies. Acai tastes kinda like a very unsweet blueberry…but that can be fixed with a few drops of stevia and some strawberries.
Another benefit of this superfruit is that it hides the taste of spirulina extremely well. Spirulina is another powerhouse food but unlike a lot of other superfoods, I really dislike the taste and I find it a lot harder to hide than most of the other ones so I’m always looking for recipes where I can sneak it in. This smoothie is full of antioxidants, loaded with vitamins and minerals and tastes like a nice little mixed berry treat. If you can palette a full teaspoon of spirulina, I would encourage you to add more….but baby steps for me…
